Have you ever experienced heartburn, indigestion, or acid reflux? And have you ever taken an antacid to “put the fire out”? What if I told you that taking antacids or other medications for heartburn symptoms could actually be perpetuating the problem, instead of fixing it? What if I told you that the burn you felt was actually due to a deficiency of stomach acid, not an excess? In most cases, this is true and it’s what we’re going to discuss in Part 3 of the Ready, Set, Digest series. Continue reading
A few days ago I posted the above photo on Instagram & Facebook and got a lot of requests for the recipe, so that’s what I’ll be sharing with you today! It’s pretty similar to another shrimp dish I posted a few weeks ago. There are just a few changes that make it even simpler – and bonus, it’s done in half the time! Continue reading
It’s that time again! Welcome to Part 2 of the Ready, Set, Digest series, where we’re learning all about how to optimize our digestion and why it’s so important to our overall health. Let’s jump right in with a brief recap of Part 1:
Last week, we discussed the first crucial step in digestion – making sure your body is ready to eat! In a nutshell:
- Slow down.
- Chill out.
- Chew thoroughly.
- Don’t eat your weight in Godfather’s Pizza (shameless Goonie reference).
So, baking is really not my forte. I tend to burn things and I inevitably miss some crucial ingredient, resulting in something that tastes like cardboard and looks like a hockey puck. It’s not pretty. But I do enjoy a delicious baked good every now & then, especially around this time of year. So what better way to get in on the festive fun than to make a no-bake miniature cookie?? It’s almost impossible to screw up and well, tiny food is just cool. Continue reading
Could I have chosen a longer title for this post? (Yes, but humor me.) What’s funny about it is that if you read the title more like an ingredients list, it’s actually quite short – just 3 things! Other than your cooking fat & seasonings, all you need for this recipe are shrimp, mushrooms, and a couple heads of broccoli. Pretty sweet, right? Continue reading
Today we’re talking salmon wraps and self-doubt. What – do those things seem unrelated or something? Okay before you jump ship, let me just expand a little… Continue reading
You may have noticed I’ve been away from the blog for a while. Over 3 months to be exact (gasp!), that is criminal!! Well, not really, it’s been for a great cause! I have been hard at work on my Nutritional Therapy Consultant certification program and I am two weeks – TWO WEEKS! – away from taking my final exam! I was really hoping to keep my blog up to date as I went through the program, but priorities prevailed and blogging just had to take a back seat. Continue reading
It’s been a while since I’ve posted – my studies and work have been keeping me so busy! It can get overwhelming at times, but I’m still so passionate about what I’m learning, it’s SO worth all the hard work. I can’t wait to share everything I’m learning with you guys and become a better real-food & nutrition resource for you. In the meantime, I will just try to keep sharing my recipes and meal ideas with you and hope you enjoy them! Continue reading
Fact: I am not a chef. Not even close. I usually just throw some stuff in a pan, cross my fingers, and hope it doesn’t burn (which it usually does). However, this lemony kale experiment happened to
only burn a little turn out super good and it was super simple, so I just had to share it with you guys! This would make a great side dish for just about any meal – or if you’re like me, you just eat a huge bowl of it and call it dinner. Continue reading
